About
ANR
In the simplest
terms, Direct Noise Cancelling (DNC) or Active Noise Reduction (ANR),
is the technique of cancelling noise disturbances by a system, which
drives a speaker to generate mirror images of the sound frequencies
of the outside noise. Additionally, the PILOT DNC system directs
its noise cancelling at low frequency noise while using its Enhanced
Voice Intelligibility (EVI) circuitry to enhance the speech frequencies
(500–1000 Hz) by 2–4 dB on all audio input. This unique combination
of noise cancelling and speech enhancement makes for significantly
increased intelligibility. All PILOT active headsets contain these
features.
It should be
noted that ANR systems are most effective at targeting the low frequencies.
Mid-range and high frequencies are attenuated passively by the ear
cup design and its characteristics. The actual mass of the ear cup
and the volume inside the ear cup all help to improve passive noise
attenuation. For the best hearing conservation and preservation
of one’s hearing, the prospective user should choose a headset which
combines the best passive and active technologies to cover the wide
range of frequencies one might encounter. A full brochure is available
upon request for each DNC headset.
